The Stone Development Foundation (TSDF) has donated a motorized borehole to the Elekuro community in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. The official commissioning took place on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 8:00 a.m.

Present at the event were the Chairman, Board of Trustees of The Stone Development Foundation, Arc. Alex Adegboye; Board members of TSDF; Elders of Elekuro community; and friends of TSDF.

TSDF has brought a reliable source of clean water to the residents of the Elekuro community, easing the burden on women and young children who previously spent hours daily fetching water. This project has significantly improved access to clean water for drinking, bathing, and household chores, enhancing overall well-being and quality of life.

The installation of this borehole has reduced the risk of waterborne illnesses such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery, which are often prevalent in communities without access to clean water. Moreover, it has increased productivity among women and children, allowing them to focus on their daily activities and pursue their passions.

With access to a regular water supply, women can now attend to their businesses and work without interruptions, while children can attend school on time, improving their academic performance and overall well-being. The borehole has also reduced the risk of social vices such as rape and harassment, as young girls are no longer forced to venture out alone to fetch water at ungodly hours.

The introduction of this borehole has not only alleviated water poverty but also brought a sense of joy and relief to the community. It has transformed the lives of the residents, providing a reliable source of clean, safe water all year round, which will reduce cases of water-borne diseases that afflict some community members.

The borehole will serve an estimated 10,000 persons in the Elekuro community. Community members expressed their excitement, noting that the borehole would be the first facility in the Elekuro community and environs that serves the community free of charge. Unlike existing borehole facilities in the community, which were constructed for business purposes, TSDF has made this facility available for public use at no cost.

In conclusion, the community members appreciated TSDF for the privilege of access to clean water and promised to maintain the facility. Additionally, the TSDF team of water volunteers will regularly visit the community to monitor the project’s performance, providing guidance and support as needed. This proactive approach ensures that the borehole remains well-maintained and managed, providing a sustainable source of clean water for generations to come.
