TSDF CV and Resume Writing Tips

The Stone Development Foundation organized a two-day workshop on CV writing and interview tips on Friday, 18th and Saturday, 19th October, 2019 at The Stone Technical College, Bodija, Ibadan.

The objectives of the workshop were: to understand the rudiments of an effective CV and résumé; to know the difference between a CV and a résumé; to teach participants how to write a detailed cover letter as well as skills required to perform excellently in an interview.

Participants were taught the differences between CVs and resumes. They were also taught how to write a cover letter; considered the do’s and don’ts of CV writing; considered examples of cover letters and résumé submissions, as well as job application tactics, common interview questions, dressing and comportment for interviews.

Furthermore, facilitators highlighted that participants should use action words and industry-related buzz words in their CVs, résumés and cover letters. Also, participants were advised to avoid using words like; I beg to apply, please feel free to ask me any question etc in their application letters. Also, information like age, ethnicity, health status should not be included in a CV.

Consequently, the participants were enlightened and grateful for the practical session that was organized towards improved writing of CVs, résumés and general interview preparations at the workshop. At the end of the workshop, certificates were awarded both to the facilitators and participants.

In conclusion, participants were informed that they should ensure to train others within their social circle on how to package their CVs, résumés, cover letters and interview preparations.
